The Lyon-based collective BLING RING presents the 2nd edition of its eponymous exhibition at the Sophie…etc gallery in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, from September 28 to October 7, 2023.
This exhibition is held as part of Parcours Bijoux, the Parisian triennial event bringing together nearly 50 events dedicated to contemporary jewelry.
An exhibition presented for the first time with success in Lyon in June 2022. The 4 organizers invited 18 jewelers, including Louise Vurpas, to reflect, create, and offer their interpretation of the bling-bling ring, and for this renewal of the exhibition in Paris, of bling-bling jewelry in general.
A theme serving as a pretext to have fun, to go all out, but also a theme to question and put our current world into perspective.
About sixty pieces are on display.
For this event, whose theme you will have understood—that of gaudiness—Louise chooses to repurpose the material by working with "silver" in its two senses. Two rings made of silver (metal) and silver (banknotes). For the "Caillasse" ring, the banknotes are viewed as a material in their own right, a rough stone to be cut that will become a massive solitaire.
As for the "Porte Feuilles" ring, banknotes replace a line of precious stones, neatly arranged in their setting.
Here, Louise plays with the different meanings of material and pecuniary preciousness by shaking up their codes and values.
